Need Computer Laptop Guru

I am needing a laptop with the new I 7 processor with 16 gb ram for editing 4K HD video. I've seen prices starting in the $ 899. range up to $ 1600.00.

I was told I might be able to use an older Dell 7010 and gut it and just add the new components I need.

I know there's a few hobbyist that build systems from scratch here. Any advise here ?

Look at Lenovo Yoga Pro series... They have good deals... Relaible laptops with better design.

Good luck trying to upgrade a laptop. Even ram upgrades can be iffy. Most laptops have a hard limit. Power and heat are the two big killers for trying to upgrade a laptop. Research carefully.

Unless you have to have the mobility, you would be far better off long term with a desktop

Next to gaming, editing 4K video is the second most demanding activity you can do on a computer. Spend the money on a new system. Unless you need to be mobile, consider a desktop that can give you better cooling.

Try calling the SMU or UTD computer lab.Tell them you need a Student tech guru and your rate is $x per hour and you need them to do the following job. Anybody looking for work? Over the last ten years while in high school/college,I've gotten Romanian Coders, Asian PHD software engineers,Russian hackers, and even a few mail order Slovs looking to close a deal. lol. Caveat Emptor. Kind of like ECCIE for computers but with out the reviews. Seriously though I hired like four SMU phd cand. for like $30/hr and kept them on as needed until they degreed and got their Silicon Valley bid. Beat the shit out of fhe Gheek Sqaud(fing worhtless). ps if you need a computer. they can build pretty much anything in a week. They pull brand new parts off the web or will take your existing box and update it. Ahh, no warranties so factor that ghetto element into your pricing.
