RIP, John & Alicia Nash - Nobel Prize Laureate & Wife
Nobel Prize Laureate, John Nash and his wife died in a car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike on May 23, 2015. The couple died at the scene of the accident as they attempted to return home from Norway where the renowned mathematician was honored with the Abel Award.
John Nash, Jr. was immortalized in film by Russell Crowe's portrayal in the 2001, Academy Award winning film, "A Beautiful Mind." The film was based upon the life and career of the game-theory pioneer, including his struggles with paranoid schizophrenia.
Nash was honored for his early insights, still widely used in economics, into how rivals shift or maintain strategies and allegiances. The Nash Equilibrium describes the moment when all parties are pursuing their best-case scenario and wouldn’t change course even if a rival does. It has been widely applied to matters including military face-offs, industrial price wars and labor negotiations.
Condolences to the couple's surviving sons and extended family.
