The salivation of folks like YR begins when they finally decide to vote, and in predictable "Pavlovic" fashion it is simply less challenging to vote a "straight" ticket regardless of who is on the ballot. Once they enter the realm of "ballot splitting" they actually have to have had some "learning" of the candidates in the local races to make an intelligent and meaningful selection in order to actually IMPROVE the body of "government" with which they have the greatest regular contact.
As Texas increasingly approached a "two-party" state the Democrats had to field a better quality of candidates to compete with the previously ineffective Republican Party. The pendulum has not shifted to the Republican Party and the quality of Democrats who throw their "hat in the ring" is as low as it was before when they only had to have a "Democrat" printed on their card with the obligatory union "stamp" to reflect their loyalty to socialistic values and to receive their customary donations and support from the "bosses."
He just hasn't matured intellectually from the training, which explains his socially and culturally "correct" vote for Obaminable, which shielded him from the accusation of being a "racist" by opposing the "first Black President" of the United States of America. He now has to constantly justify it.
