At least some people in NY are reevaluating what the city should be doing:

You know things are bad in the five boroughs when even two gay guys find Buffalo - still part of NY state - a better place to live.

Worse yet, another NY ex-pat is extolling the deserted neighborhood in Detroit where she now lives.

Apparently NYC can still draw young people who will jack up rents, but sooner or later they leave for more affordable places. Ho can you build stable communities if everybody splits after 10 or 15 years?
