Default Waco Kid's College Football week 2

What is Waco Kid's Weekly College Football Review? It is an ongoing weekly review of all things College Football!!

Each week upcoming games can be discussed and predictions made, name-calling after victories and general all-around college football discussion! Each week will be closed out by the next Monday and a new thread opened for the current college football schedule for each week.

Rules -

"Rules?? We don't need no stinkin’ rules!”

Actually we do.

WKWCFR rule 1

"Lies, damn lies and statistics!"

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli

If you quote a stat, record, 3rd down conversion rate, an all-time mark or the number of jock straps an 85-man team needs ...

Post it! If you can't post a link to it, it's bogus!
What's valid in the Internet age? Just about anything! Any of the major sports publications, local newspapers, any of the big networks and official school and NCAA sites just to cover the big ones.

WKWCFR rule 2

Predictions must be posted 1 day in advance! If you haven't read the sports page and figgured out who's going to win by the day before ya never will!

Must be time stamped before Midnight the day before game-day, for any weekly games Thur-Sun on the current weekly schedule.

So there you have it, pretty basic! You can post on general topics of your favorite teams regardless of that week's opponent. Just remember WKWCFR rule 1

Mich St (+13) over Oregon

D vs Speed

I would like to think that the Sparty D can make the Ducks struggle just enough at home to at least cover.

Oregon should win ..........but by 2 TD's or more?

QB David Ash is out (concussion) again. And from what I saw (during Longhorn Spring Football) young Tyrone Swoopes is far from ready for what he's to see tonight (vs BYU). It would have behooved Texas he start last week to get a game under his belt.....oh, well.

The UT defense looked much better last week (than most of last year) but hey it was North Texas; not exactly the caliber of the Oregon or Florida State offenses. So what could you come away knowing from that game other than Texas had better talent than the Mean Green? Wasn't that was a given before the opening kick off? Moving forward:

Charlie Strong & staff will do the best to coach up Mack's recruits (however) I fear it's about to be another long season for the struggling Horns. In today's college game, you have to be able to consistently put points up on the scoreboard.....and it's very difficult to do that if you have to lean heavily on a ground attack to make that happen. In Swoopes case, Texas will try to do that so as to protect him and keep him out of 3rd and long.

If DC's know you can't throw the ball, they'll stack 8 - 9 in the box and choke any running game you might have. I know it's cliche', but it's paramount you have a QB who can make the tough passes if you're going to be successful in today's game.

Well, fuck ...early on this one looked like an easy win for Sparty. But a great 2nd half for Mariota and the Ducks changes that.

More like Sparty blew it. Sparty lost the game in the 3rd when they only mustered about 40 yds on offense. You can't beat a fast scoring offense like Oregon that way.

Interesting discussion. I look forward to tuning back in to this station later. Think we'll see a thrilling playoff series this year? Sure am glad they chunked the old system.

Since the often boring NFL is just a bunch of hired-gun mercenaries these days, college football is much more fun IMO. The pro game was a lot more interesting when I was a kid than it is now.

Nice to see that there's so much more than just discussion of hot women on this site. (As wonderful as that is!!)

Thanks, Waco Kid!

Winner: K State.
Iowa St. lost to 2A North Dakota State in its opener. Here's L number 2 Cyclones.

(20) Kansas St. 32 - 28 Iowa St. Final

K State actually had to rally to win this game. At least they did win it. For all the winning Snyder has done at K State, he may slip down a bit this year. We'll see.

Par for the course here. Mizzu needs the "preseason" to prepare for the SEC.

Yep. Bozo wipes out Tulsa. Injuries might be ZerOU's Achilles Heel this season. Especially at QB. If Bozo's sports luck holds, ZerOU might be a player.

I picked the Badgers over Crazy Lester last week and whiffed it. On the upside Wisconsin gave Crazy Lester a game so if LSU is for real, so is Wisconsin.

Florida Atlantic @ (2) Alabama TixYahoo Calendar

Winner: Bama
This is a LOCK. Tide Rolls.

Florida Atlantic 0 - 41 (2) Alabama Final

What do we know about Bama and the "Lame Kiffy" experiment so far? Just what we knew before, that Kiffy seems better suited as an OC on a real coach's team than as a HC. There will be a game this year (LSU maybe?) where a defense forces Kiffy to put up or the Tide loses.

Clemson takes its UGA hangover out on D2 SC State. While i don't like seeing the biggies play 2A teams this made sense as a perfect fallback if Clemson lost to UGA. They did.

Depending on how good UGA turns out to be, that opening day loss may actually help Clemson in the ACC race.

Winner: USC

Going ALL IN with Sark. This is a game Pete would Win, condomheads.

(14) USC 13 - 10 (13) Stanford Final

Told ya. for all the so-called "offensive IQ's" here, this game had a decidedly old school feel to it. Somewhere, John Robinson is smiling.

Winner: Sparty
best ranked game of the day! Here's your chance to make a big statement, Sparty.

(7) Michigan St. 27 - 46 (3) Oregon Final

Sparty, Sparty, Sparty! You HAD this game. Sparty lost this game in the 3rd as much as Oregon won it. 40 yds total offense. To Oregon, that's 3 plays. EPIC FAIL, Sparty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7:00 PM EDT ESP2
San Jose St. @ (5) Auburn TixYahoo Calendar

Winner: Auburn
Aubie is way too much for this Sparty to handle.

San Jose St. 13 - 59 (5) Auburn Final

Good tune-up for Gus here. Like ZerOU, Aubie's year may hinge on the Gods of Football smiling on Aubie. the QB drives Malzahn's offense even more than Bozo's.

Winner: AZ St.
Sun Devils should plaster hapless Bob Dummie and his Lobo's.

Another easy game that really tells me NADA yet about the Sun Devils' chances in the PAC 12.

East Carolina @ (21) South Carolina TixYahoo Calendar

Winner: USC
Steve Superior needs a rebound game here. Just Win, coach.

East Carolina 23 - 33 (21) South Carolina Final

Well, seems like WIN is about all SC did here. E Carolina isn't exactly a fearsome opponent. But they did win. You know Spurrier needs a QB to make his system work. If SC has QB struggles they may take a step back this year. and that shouldn't detract one bit from the incredible job Spurrier has done to get SC this far.

Winner: Free Shoes U
The other LOCK of the day, unless say .. a certain QB eats bad .. crab-legs??

Citadel 12 - 37 (1) Florida St. Final

PANIC!! Citadel scores on FSU! PANIC!!. Not. LOL. I think FSU will lose a game this year (i have an ambush game in mind already) but Citadel ain't it. And for the record Citdel was shut out until the 4th when Jimbo put in the "JV" team.

Winner: Baylor.
QB Petty has a neck injury, let's hope that Briles, if he starts Petty, pulls him early to avoid an early season mega-disaster.

N'western St. 6 - 70 (10) Baylor Final

No Petty, No problem this time. At some point if Petty can't play in a league game Baylor's quest to win the Big 12 again might fall short.

Winner: LSU
Shoulda called it for Crazy Lester last week, this week i get it right. Too easy, Lester, don't choke now son!

This is a good sign early for LSU, who has suffered a bit with consistent QB play, especially against lessor teams.

Virginia Tech 35 - 21 (8) Ohio St. Final

DAMN! i smelled one here but since BeamerBall hasn't been good lately i figured the Pope of Columbus would luck out at home. NOT. BTW, it's officially time to worry, Bucktards. Now at least, you aren't the same team without Miller at QB.

tougher than UNC would like here but again that's exactly what UNC will need later, how to win a tough game especially when UNC didn't play up to their talent.

That's 2 games now UCLA has nearly lost. they haven't looked anywhere near like a top 10 team so far.

Dam straight! no one's banged the war drums louder for a true playoff than TWK has. It's 4 now and it will eventually go to 8. Ideally it should be 16, yes all the conferences. Currently, there are 10 conferences. You Win, yer IN. You have 6 more at-larges, more than enough to factor in the Independents and top 2nd place teams in the "power" conferences.

This will be a historic year in College Ball, whoever wins a title now can stake a larger claim at being truly the best than ever before. even if it says capped at 4 (it won't, too much MONEY to be made) it's still enough to give any future champion SuperBowl-like street cred. Works for me.
