those last two on vimeo are hot as fuck and very well done.

i would, however, caution you just like i have drlove to be careful with your music. even though you were smart and used relatively generic edm stuff, even king of bass wants to get paid!

the second wevideo link said the vid was private and couldn't be viewed unless logged in.

Yeah, it is definitely a grey line when using another creators music. In my videos I have only used songs that were remixed and then I remix them and cut them up myself a bit more also, so by the time it finds its way onto the video its something new all together. I know a lot of these mixers who are making careers doing it and building huge followings are battling with the original artists in some cases to see what the precedent will be. Should be interesting to see how it plays out, thanks for the heads up!

hmm.

i don't think it's grey at all. using someone else's work - or part of it - to create profit for yourself violates copyright law. it's pretty black and white, actually.

just ask vanilla ice.

Currently there is no precedent in the copyright fair use laws for this type and live sampling of music. There are a ton of instances where both sides of the coin are making valid points and trying to come to a mutual agreement. Poland is one of the first places to pass derivative copyright laws and they are pretty forgiving for sampling. It shares in common with fair use that as long as you made changes to the original and that they aren't harmed significantly in a financial capacity then its ok. I think in this case, for a small indy art video those two apply. As for rap moguls who sample songs in their music and make millions off of it, Grand Upright Music Ltd v. Warner Bros. Records made sure that future artists who stand to make a great deal of money need to clear the copyright first.

and i get what you're saying. i'm sure the arguments come in just how much the original has to be changed before it's nonderivative.
