Tempe-16 johns arrested based on silly notion it protects 15 yr olds
Jul 16, 2014 TEMPE, AZ - Sixteen men were arrested last week at a Tempe hotel during a prostitution sting, according to Tempe police.
Tempe police Lt. Scott Smith said the bust happened at a hotel near Priest Drive and Baseline Road between July 8-9, 2014.
All of the men arrested are between the ages of 27 to 71, according to the release. Each of the men were arrested on various charges, including soliciting prostitution, indecent exposure or drug possession.
The bust specifically targeted adult prostitution.
According to Lt. Scott Smith, “Studies demonstrate a majority of sexually exploited persons enter into the sex trade as minors and are often coerced or forced to engage in acts of prostitution by pimps or traffickers. It is believed the average age of entry into prostitution in Phoenix is approximately 14.83 years of age. Targeting demand is part of a larger strategy by Arizona law enforcement to keep our communities safe," according to a released statement
