Yes. you're correct. First offense is a misdemeanor. For those of you who don't know how it works allow me to fill you in. With or without the jails being over crowded Pulaski County has a method for us hookers and johns as well.
For the hookers who get busted, they will spend anywhere from 6-10 hours in the holding cell waiting to be booked and processed. Since the charge is in fact a misdemeanor they place a 50,000 dollar cash only bond on you so you can't bond out immediately and disappear. (mainly for the working girl that's from out of state) Instead that holds you in the county jail until 9 or 10 am when you go to video court to be officially charged and convicted, bout 30 days of community service, fines and court cost to pay. You'll get an OR bond after court, sign the paper work and get the hell out of there.
The john's are also charged and can bond out pretty much immediately unless accused of pimping. They go through your phone, offer deals if you will help provide them info. (they also offer that to the girls) and so on and so forth.
They don't care about being overcrowded, they care about the money. They will throw you a mat and and put your ass on the floor without a second thought. The fines and fee's plus what the state pays the jail, food cost, ect to house inmates is all they give a damn about. It's a revolving door, but sometimes it takes longer than needed.
Money Makes the World Go Round and everyone wants a piece of the pie. Even the Police.
