The Civil Rights Act of 1964, not to be confused with the Civil Rights Act of 1957, was passed because of support by the GOP. The democrats were not going to pass it. In fact the democratic party was filibustering the bill. Republican Evertt Dirksen got it passed and LBJ gave him that credit.
Do you fight STD by fucking? That is what LBJ did with war on poverty. Instead of expanding the job base and creating independent people. He gave away money, food, and housing to people who never learned how to hold a job. People didn't need to go to school and mothers never needed fathers anymore. The drop out rate, single mothers, and unemployment can be traced to the "war on poverty".
