The suggestion to contact the city housing authority is very good. You might try contacting the city building inspection department.

Reading your lease may well disclose that the landlord has zero right to hit you with a $200 "fine" for the bicycle or pumpkins. And if the lease doesn't specify such add-ons, you might be able to file a complaint in small claims court, especially if after you move out your deposit is withheld.

She said they "threatened" a $200 fine... Just wondering how the heck the found out about pumpkins. It sounds like they spend more time looking around than actually fixing things. From the reviews that place is becoming "little India". If that is the case most who live there probably feel like they are living in a Palace compared to their homeland.

Don't know if you have this or not but a good thing with renting is renter's insurance. Covers your things if something were to happen. Without this you could lose everything and have to cover cost out of your own pocket. You can have this added on through your car insurance company normally and generally it only cost about $25 a month. Would be more for things like jewelry or guns because those are add ons, but still very much worth it.

As far as the issues with the landlord goes the others have given great advice.

ya roymacr.....no pumpkins, no wreaths......no bicycles...no electric grills on patio even though its stucco....the list goes on! they took my whole deposite on my last place. expected me to clean the celling fan blades!!
and i am not prejudice, but i am the minority here for sure.....the smell of curry is not pleasant

Mine is like 80 per year. My apt complex reqires it.
