Default Shock!!! For once I agree with Obama!

President Obama (notice I used the capitalized version) has come out publicly and said that he thinks that a ban on assault weapons should be voted on. I agree that it should be voted on but I don't believe it could or should pass. I want to get the bastards on record to separate the fascists from the dupes.

Exclamation Light

Sometimes the light shines even in the darkest corners.

. . . Let's just hope it stays lit!

Actually, you don't agree but Dead-Bart does....so you're on board.

Whatever. We all know the assault weapons ban isn't going to pass. You can feel all good about your dumbass self the next time a bunch of six year olds get shot down by a maniac with an AR15....because you need to protect yourself from the government. Be proud.

You mean the Bush tax cuts for the rich? Or the pull out on the Bush timeline according to the Bush plan?

I would be proud except for it only punishes law abiding citizens and legitimate businesses and does nothing to stop the manics.

I agreed with the plan but not the back stabbing, demogouging, bad mouthing, deceitful, incompetent way that he went about it. So I give a B for the plan and an F for the execution. Remember all the heat about the tax cut extension when all he had to do with ask for it? He stood up in front of the American people and repeatedly lied about the people who voted for the first one. As for the pull out, he screwed that up by not getting the forces in country agreement. We are going to lose Iraq because of that. We won the war but Obama is going to lose the peace. If you want to call that agreement then I guess you can.

Reid is correct that there is no point voting on it unless the votes are there to pass it. It makes members take an unpopular vote that might cost them support. In this case, there are more Democrats running in pro-gun States next go round than there are Republicans running in anti-gun States. Like it or not, that's the reality of why it's not going to get a vote. If the Republicans were in charge and the facts were reversed, McConnell wouldn't bring it up for a vote, either.

That's exactly right.

And it's easy to see why Obama might want to publicly call for a vote. Presidents always seek to create the appearance that they're actively engaged in attempts to advance the legislative process, even if their preferred solutions don't have even a sliver of a chance of seeing the light of day.
