Having made numerous forays to south La and reading all of the good suggestions, I might add that a cruise through the Garden district is quite choice.. I usually fly into and out of NO but I have people in Gonzalez and B Rouge.. If you have the time a plantation tour is very interesting if you are into history, also since I am connected with locals I have seen many interesting things off the beaten path...sharecropper cabins still standing, graves as far back as the 1600s..and even though the season is over, an LSU football game with 100,000.00 fans and the biggest tailgate party I have ever seen is something to experience...oh and of course the food....

Only disclaimer I would offer is don't go between April fools day and October...brutal.

I agree, Garden District is worthwhile. Avenue Bed and Breakast is a good one with choice bars and restaurants around the corner and down the street within walking distance. It's also on the trolley line, right across the street as I recall. Both features allow you to drink and not drive.

Oak Alley is a good plantation visit, and one you will recognize from movies and shows. It's on most plantation visit tours which will give you a good variety of style and architecture, particularly since Creole plantation houses are of a markedly different design and purpose from French ones.

The National D-Day museum is there, built on the grounds of the original "Higgins" boat factory. And a few blocks off Bourbon Street are some greatly unique antique stores.

Harrah's has water front gaming. Personally I enjoyed the strip clubs as they attract talent from all over, but they are pricey with huge upsell.

I remember on one of my visits taking the trolley car south and walking through one of the cemeteries (very interesting history in those!) and down to Emeril's Delmonico restaurant.

I also remember one of my favorite bars down there was a place (can't remember the name) on Bourbon St (shocker, huh?) but not even a block off Canal. It was on the left side of the street, you walk through the front door, down a bit of a hallway, and it opened up to a huge atrium-type area. Great jazz, cold beverages, and nice eats.

alot of the clubs have changed lately......I think it is beach on Bourbon or Razoos now

I agree also, the Garden district is beautiful. It's also the original American side of Nola, Canal Street being the "middle ground" between the Quarter and the old American side. I like the old mansions lining the Garden District. John Goodman lives there year round and can see his house. Along with Sandra Bullocks' house, there is one of Anne Rices house too, a Nola native. For the history buffs, you can also see the house Jefferson Davis died in. Some may find this lame, I find it pretty cool.

Are you referring to the high humidity as why not to go there between those dates? The times I have went there is in August, and I didn't find it much different than KC. Hunidity here is ridiculous too.

Damn...Thanks for all the intel! I'll be there this Friday and leaving Monday. We have 11 guys going so it should be a pretty rowdy time. It sounds like I could stay a month and still not see everything. We're doing a swamp tour with Airboat Adventures on Saturday. Looks like a lot fun. Which strip clubs are the best for the scenery and the best mileage? Any AMP's down there near the French Quarter?
