Not unless they want the economy to immediately collapse. Of course, if the Fed continues printing
money, the economy will still collapse. It will just be slightly later and the collapse will be more severe.

We're all on the Titanic. We've hit the iceberg and the ship is obviously sinking; but the band is still playing, and the captain is giving away free champagne and caviar. I guess we should enjoy it while we can.

It means, they thought they could never sink. They thought the Titanic was special; the normal rules didn't apply. They found out the hard way the rules always apply. If you hit an iceberg and tear a whole in your ship, you sink.

These are the bad old days. Trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see is not exactly cause far rejoicing.
