The vote was 94 to 3, clearing the way for Kerry to formally take over from Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday.
Three Republicans voted against Kerry — Texas Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn and Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma.

Why is that? These three guys knew that their votes were irrelevant so they played to their right wing base and made symbolic opposition. It's the senatorial equivalent to thumbing their noses at the president, and just as puerile.
The duly elected president has the right to choose his cabinet, which will reflect his policies, and those politicians with any maturity understands this and picks his policy battles for when they mean something. Of course, these guys don't have any political clout because they never will be votes that count on any really important issue, because they will always be against the president's policies.
So, why is Cruz looking better instead of predictable?
