Still haven't watched the video, eh, Timmy? If you took the time you spent bashing it, and watched it instead, you'd have spent less time on this thread, and wouldn't look so stupid.

I'm not quite sure what the point is. We have a culture which think drugs can correct anything (how many ask for a drug to cure a common cold or viral infection).
What's new, what didn;t we know already?
That ceratin substances (illegal) can affect certain people badly? well known.
That drugs to help certain people can have bad side effects amongst others? well known.
That you can;t cure depression, that drugs cannot stop (rather than reduce) suicides? well known.
that drugs can help enormously many many people with mental health problems? well known.
That mass murderers are not 'normal'. well known.
Not sure what the point is. I've watched it.

Well, at least you watched it, EssenceofNothing. The point is that Big Pharma is making tons of money by convincing doctors to prescribe psychotropic drugs in mass quantities and the drugs are not being monitored effectively. Now, those drugs have worked wonders for millions of people, enabling them to live happy, positive lives. But in the wrong dose for the wrong person, they are devastating. Google some blogs on common anti-depressants and ADHD drugs and read some of the horror stories.
These drugs are not a panacea. They are DANGEROUS. There needs to be more effective monitoring of these drugs, and doctors need to be trained to be more responsible. But Big Pharma, in league with the AMA is making tons of money off these drugs, and that has led to their misuse and overprescription.
Now we are trying to blame guns for this problem. It's not the guns. It's not the NRA. It's the overprescription and failure to monitor psychotropic drugs. I mean, really. A lot of these drugs are prescribed for kids who are only guilty of being a kid.
When you start playing with a person's brain chemistry, it can lead to disaster, as we have seen. It can also produce wonderful results, but there must be close monitoring to make sure the drug is the proper one for the patient. And alternatives should be tried before prescribing these drugs. They should be a last resort.
The problem is with Big Pharma and the medical establishment. Not with legal gun owners.

Are prescription drugs the cause of your problem?

My wifes job as a mental health social worker involves a lot of time going to her client's houses and making sure they take their medication. She works closely with nurses. So I know all about this.
The issue is not just the drug companies, it is about how many feet on the ground are going to do that kind of work, it is always the first thing to be cut back.
It is unbelievable how little she is paid to do this kind of vital work, plus make decisions on who should be sectioned (detailed in hospital, voluntary or not) and go to court and present cases to judges, every week.
I don;t know what the equivalent situation is in the US. Would you recommend your child persues a career in the social work field?
Is it a mark of society how we handle the sick and vulnerable?
Before you smart asses suggest it, no I am not one of her clients.

The TRUE SOURCE of RANDOM & MASS SHOOTINGS and VIOLENCE
The answer …………..
Why is it that none of the disturbed and evil men, who steal guns, then go and kill movie-goers and children in school, has ever been identified as a conservative NRA member?
FT HOOD~~~ Registered Democrat ~ Muslim
COLUMBINE ~~~ Too young to vote; both families were registered Democrats and progressive liberals
VIRGINIA TECH~~~ Wrote hate mail to President Bush and to his staff Registered Democrat
COLORADO THEATER~~~ Registered Democrat; staff worker on the Obama campaign; Occupy Wall Street participant; progressive liberal
CONNECTCUT SCHOOL SHOOTING~~~ Registered Democrat; hated Christians,
Common thread is that all of these shooters were “progressive liberal Democrats."
Of course it isn't POLITICALLY CORRECT to attempt to find a common thread!

Timothy McVeigh was a registered Republicn & NRA member who also voted Libertarian in 1996.
Adam Lanza's mother, Nancy Lanza (whose guns were used in the Sandy Hook shooting), was a gun enthusiest as well as a known follower of the Prepper movement.
============================== ===========
I'm not saying that it's political affiliation that is the cause of whether or not someone is going to commit such an atrocious act, but that it's something that spans political lines.
@DaliLama: People are of course trying to determine why these types of mass violent acts are occurring and with seemingly greater frequency these days. I don't think political correctness is hindering this - I think the cause is actually being examined and our society is scrambling to try and find a solution.

Perhaps you didn’t notice, but McVeigh didn’t use a so-called “assault rifle” that ranks so high on the Kool Aid sucking Dim’s hit list. Hence, you’ve anecdotally illustrated that no quantity of laws and regulations will end murder where there is deliberate intent on the part of the killer. Another FYI, had the Aurora shooter not broken down during interrogation, substantially more deaths and injuries would have occurred when LE entered his apartment.

My point was never that any amount of laws will stop people from trying to kill each other. My point was that mass murderers come from all parts of the political spectrum, not just from one party or the other. My post was not aimed at guns, but at the idea that mass murderers come only from Democrats.
I'm not certain what your statement about the Aurora shooter is pointing at.

I understand that. What does that have to do with the argument (for or against) that all mass murderers are Democrats?
