Default Nevada brothel Lobbyist making push for legalization

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/L...as-4168402.php

2013 might be the year, folks. If things go well, Clark County (and Washoe County) might get the same right to vote "yea" or "nay" just like every other county in the state.

The good news: If it comes to pass, the prohibition on prostitution in Las Vegas will come to an end. It'll be regulated and taxed just like alcohol. Taxpayers will enjoy millions of dollars per year in new revenue and all sorts of crimes will decrease.

The bad news: The awful 50:50 split between the girls and the house might change to a 40:40:20 split between the girls, the house, and the government.

Why it might fail: Casinos. Casinos own Nevada and if they don't want it, it won't happen. We all know that prostitution is rampant in Las Vegas casinos anyway (Google recent news story: Palms casino fined $1 million), but for some reason casinos are against it. Probably because brothels are seen as competition. They want you to gamble...then get a quick BJ in your room...then get your ass back on the casino floor, pronto! They don't want you leaving the building to spend hundreds of dollars somewhere else.

Just like with moonshine, there will always be a market for cheaper product, even when the product is legal. Sure, some guys will go the legal brothel route in Vegas. But a lot of guys won't want to spend $400/hour at a brothel when they can get a bar/casino girl for $200. Until independent escorts are legal, it's just a side show.
