Neil Abercrombie ignores Daniel Inouye’s dying wish, picks Brian Schatz for Hawaii Senate
Why do Democrats have trouble appointing minorities to open offices? There is one African-American in the Senate - a Republican. I think all the Hispanic members of the Senate are Republican as well. Here Hawai'i has a chance to appoint a minority to fill Senator Inouye's seat, and instead, chooses an old white guy. What gives? I thought the Democrats were the party of minorities?
Here's part of the article:
Just as a thought experiment imagine what would happen if the following scenario played out…
+A minority Republican Senator passes away.
+Choosing a successor is the responsibility of his state’s (white) (Republican) governor.
+The late Senator in question had formally made a request to the governor that a particular qualified individual (who also happens to be a minority) succeed him.
+The governor then proceeds to ignore the dying wish of the late Senator, and instead chooses his (white) Lt. Governor.
+The question before the board is, Just how big would the resulting media firestorm be, anyway? Large enough to detect from orbit?
Yes, probably. However, in this case all the players are Democrats: the state is Hawaii, the Governor is Neil Abercrombie (best-known for fumble-fingeringly extending birther fantasies for an extra two weeks or so), the Lt. Governor (and new Senator) is Brian Schatz (I never heard of him, either), the late Senator is Medal of Honor winner Daniel Inouye, and the slapped-in-the-face candidate that Inouye favored was Rep. Colleen Hanabusa.
So the white governor of Hawai'i denies the request of the dying Senator, who has been their Senator since God knows when, in favor of another white guy. But they are Democrats, so no one will bother calling them on their hypocrisy. Except me.
Do you think the media would treat this differently if it were a Republican governor and Senator? The Republicans in South Carolina had their governor, a minority, appoint another minority to fill a seat vacated by a white guy. Why don't Democrats do that?

Senate seats are not left in wills you silly SOB.
It is the Gov's job to appoint who he best thinks can serve out the term, not the dead Senators.
It is called the law. The Gov followed the law. The law says , he decides, not the dying Senator....as great as that Senator might have been.

I would hope that the Governor picked the most qualified person. End of story!
Oh well, another new day is about to dawn. To kick off the new day, another in an increasingly long line of inconsequential threads has been started by StupidOldFart.
Some people never seem to learn!

This is stupid. You pick the best person for the job.
First you bitch Obama became President because of affirmative action. Now you bitch because they didn't use affirmative action.
Flip-flopping, back-pedaling. If you can skate backwards we can use you as a defenseman. I'm sure you're use to getting pucked in the ass.

looky, looky, another example of one of cogs truths that is an instantly provable lie.
You probably didn't know this but when you lie on a regular basis or continue to make a false claim after it is proven true, people think you are a blow hard.
You wish that's all people know. They know you probably cheated in college.
