Show me where!

FYI: I am asking, but in my discussions I am referencing payment not billing .... for a straight office visit with no additional cost codes for additional testing (in house), shots, or other services ... they will not get $120 ... and sometimes get just the copay ... one has to look at the averages .. I have seen $1,200 charges get tossed. Office prcocedures get pared to 10% of the billed charges. that is why they "pad" them with codes to show the validity of the visit and the "required" nature of the service.

Also, there are regional cost codes that will change the billing and payment depending on the "market" of the particularly region of the country.

You make it sound like any time I walk into a doctor's office any where I will pay $75 if I don't have insurance ... just not the case. .. or that the doctor will get $120 from Medicare for the same visit ... anywhere in the US ... just not the case.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Have you actually examined the books of doctors? I have. How many single-practice, patient oriented doctors can you find now adays? Very few. Why: they cannot cover their opperating costs plus pay back their loans, and make a reasonable profit (MUCH less than many corporate raiders and other financial slight-of-hand "businessmen").

I can identify 4 doctors who didn't retire, but changed professions because they couldn't afford to stay in business and practice real medicine. And it has nothing to do with "Obamacare". The march down this path started with Nixon, and it has been a one-way march. It moves faster at times, slower at times, but it is an unreversing move to lawyers and accountants running medicine. I am not in favor of Obamacare, but to think it will kill a healthy medical profession is delusional. The health care in our country is in serious condition already. Too much emphasis on the front-page fantastic things that 1 in 10,000,000 might ever need. Far, far too little on basic, sound medicine for 95% of the people.

Medical care is about much more than the number of doctors.

Those numbers are completely dependent upon the Dr involved.

Many charge exactly the same either way. Others don't. Any generalization in this area is misleading.

Gotta Medicare Bill for my father for a hospital stay. Called Medicare to say my father wasn't in the hospital for these dates and the treatments they said he got I don't remember him ever having. They basically said thank you for calling but don't worry about it. Some of the charges were for a company out of Pakistan.

Remember Obama said we were going to save $200 billion a year in medicare fraud? Ha!

Does your daddy have the initials: "O.B.L."?

Billing mix-up or "someone" is using your Daddy's I.D. #.

Everybody wants a discount off the established rate. Insurance companies want a cut, medicare wants a cut, so the rates are set so the practitioner can still make a living and employ enough people to handle the paperwork.
