The Union leadership ceased to care about workers years ago. My father was a union baker. About every two or three years they went on strike for more money. One year they threated to go on strike. The company responded by sending in accounts with the books. They showed the union leaders that increasing their paychecks again would cut into the profit margin to such an extent that it was just as profitable to truck bread in from Omaha than keep the factory open. The unions leaders called a strike and told the workers that they thought that management was lying.
Rainbow Bakery on Frederick Avenue closed the next week and everyone was out of work. My father had over 30 years and could retire but so many other were victims of the union greed.

As for Interstate Bakery I have spoken with someone with personal experience there in Lenexa. The turn over for union people is rapid and everyone has to join the union. Over 70% of the people don't last past six months. The union pockets their dues and then sends many of the people packing with no payback. He thinks of it as a scam to the union is using to paid their coffers.

All the pain the victims of Hurricane Sandy are going through and part of the reason for the delays in getting the power back on is because Lipa wouldn't allow NON UNION workers in to help ! See this is where people don't use common sense. ITS a fuckin emergency !
