That is freaking awesome. I had no idea!!
Just think of all the lives that would have been saved if we'd listen to the voice of a right winger.

Have to agree with the Dali Lama. This never happened and the terrorist was Abu Nidal who we found dead in Iraq when we invaded. Seems he was there getting medical treatment. So I guess Saddam was supporting terrorists.

That's funny coming from good old Ollie since we help create that monster:
Quote:
In mid-1979, about the same time as the Soviet Union deployed troops into Afghanistan, the United States began giving several hundred million dollars a year in aid to the Afghan Mujahideen insurgents fighting the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan and the Soviet Army in Operation Cyclone. Along with native Afghan mujahideen were Muslim volunteers from other countries, popularly known as Afghan Arabs. The most famous of the Afghan Arabs was Osama bin Laden, known at the time as a wealthy and pious Saudi who provided his own money and helped raise millions from other wealthy Gulf Arabs.
As the war neared its end, bin Laden organized the al-Qaeda organization to carry on armed jihad in other venues, primarily against the United States — the country that had helped fund the mujahideen against the Soviets.
A number of commentators have described Al-Qaeda attacks as blowback or an unintended consequence of American aid to the mujahideen.

Operation Cyclone was created during Carter's Administration. The Carter administration set up a train-the-trainer school in Virginia to train folks to go back home and train the Afghans in the training camps we helped set up there.
I've never heard of North's involvement, but not saying it wasn't so.
I was surprised when it appeared "we" latter did not know where the training camps were located when "missile lobbing" was the fashionable law enforcement response to terrorism.

The story doesn't change just because the names are different. Abu Nidal was just as much as a bad guy as OBL.
OBL was just a overachiever.

You people will believe anything. Did you hear that they took the word "gullible" out of the dictionary?
