location help needed

having never been to corpus, i'm not sure where to stay. i would like to be close to the water. are there areas i need to know about to stay away from?

i would appreciate some input.

There are several hotels in the downtown area that have views of the bay. The North Beach area is popular because it is very close to downtown attractions such as restaurants, The Lexington Museum, along with a beach. Along South Padre Island Drive is shopping with our local mall and many restaurants. And then you have Padre Island, which is a major tourist attraction here. For views of the water, definitely downtown or northshore. The Omni is downtown as well as a Holiday Inn that is like RIGHT on the water.

At northshore there is a days inn and a radisson, along with non chain hotels.

SPID is usually a popular area for travelers if water views are not a big deal due to the centralized location of most hobbyists.

I would suggest staying away from I37 near the Airport and Leopard street. Many arrests have been made in those areas, mostly BP gals mind you but still...
