This question just popped into my head... Will the rain be affected by the oil spill?

Theoretically yes. If you have events that take water up into the upper levels such as waterspouts, hurricanes etc. then at least some of the oil will go with it and will become part of the resulting precipitation.
Now, will anyone notice it when it rains? Doubtful!

Short answer?...Probably Yes.

Here is an article about natural oil seeps in the gulf. This blow out will obviously cause some problems. But the world will also continue to rotate on its axis.

I haven't heard much good about the dispersants addressed in the link. The more I hear about that oil eating bacteria the more it sounds to me that that's the way to go. I even heard one person that said many times the bacteria that is needed already exists and just needs to be fertilized to get the population up to the point of being able to make a significant difference. When the oil is gone the bacteria starves and goes back to its normal levels.

So no despersants in the water and no bad stuff in the rain. Of course the caveat is that it has never been tried on a spill anywhere near this big.

I wondered the same thing today when it started raining on me during my walk today. Man, I hope we don’t have a hurricane that affects that area.
