Default Covid

It's been eventful the last two or three days. Tuesday, I had a very scratchy throat. I thought I had caught a blast of bug spray in the face. I went to work (yes, I work over the summer for a friend of mine in another discipline) and just in case, I asked for a Covid test kit. Negative! Good to know since I'm unvaccinated and have other health problems. Went to a meeting on campus Wednesday (fall planning). Felt like shit in the evening. Did not go to work for two days. Major headache, muscle pain, persistent coughing, sweats, and fatigue. Felt so much better on Friday. Went in to work to ask a couple of questions about missing work. Covid came up and they offered two test kits. Why not. Went home, coughing about gone, headache gone, not sweating anymore, just a lot of pain in the muscles still. Getting ready to go to bed and saw the test kits. Broke one out, got busy with something, and finally got back to it. Positive! I had Covid. Because of the muscle aches, I don't sleep very well. I usually wake up every two or three hours. Anyway, I called around to everyone I had come in contact with and let them know. Oddly enough, for me, I slept about five solids hours this morning.
So, I get a call from family friend who is a nurse. She says that I should get the oral medication that you take the first five days after you start presenting. Told her that I felt pretty good and she said that was a "bad sign". She and her husband had both had Covid and it took a while from them to get over it. I felt pretty good though. Still, this is the political part, I started with VA and they couldn't tell me about this medication. They call my local pharmacy. I called Walgreen's and they said they couldn't give me any without a prescription and they would not check for it. So, I called an urgent care, community medical, emergency room and all I got was a lot Let's Go Brandon ass covering. Always someone else had to do something but they couldn't. Went over the VA emergency room (30 miles) and waited for two hours. I guess I got lucky. A nurse practitioner said that the pharmacy was manned for a little longer today, I was also eligible, and I hadn't run out of time. So, I got my oral med little thanks to the majority of the medical community. This wouldn't have happened in the Trump days.
So, I start five days of quarantine feeling pretty good. No cough, no pain, but I can't have any Cialis for the next ten days. That included with the list of drugs that I could not have.

I guess you won't be saying good bye to me for some time.

Let me ask you a question. Does this other work you do involve any physical exertion?

The medication that you are inquiring about is not approved by the FDA and is still in the "Testing Stage". It is up to you and your PCP on whether or not they recommend you take it. Please Choose Wisely.

I wish you a speedy recovery and stay hydrated!

I wondered who would be the first idiot to step up. Thanks for the tip off.

Yes, the medication is experimental, and it comes with a written disclaimer

I think the nurse was trying to say, it her case, it creeps up on you slowly. When you think you're in the clear, it comes back around.

It sounds like you used the Self Test and they can detect a Coronavirus that may not be specifically Covid-19. What could have happened to you is being out in the heat you engaged in some physical exertion you may not be accustom too, you were exposed to bug spray which contains a lot of chemical toxins. That combination could have triggered your natural viral load and you experienced symptoms and you felt ill. Now I am not trying to say you don't have Covid but you have already stated your other symptoms are or have subsided except the body aches and soreness which could be viral related or just from physical activity. I understand what your Nurse friend was saying, some people with Covid will start to feel better then there is a rebound and the symptoms return and sometimes with a vengeance. So with that being said just monitor your symptoms and how you feel. Eat well and sleep if you need too. Covid-19 is a strange Virus. If you do actually have it I think you'll walk away from it. Stay in touch with your Nurse friend.

I intend to dance away from the Wuhan (China) virus. I want to see what vengeance King Trump will exact from the Commies.

Don't worry about me and the heat. I work inside but it is humid and hot sometimes. I did spend a lot of time jogging on the flight deck with a 135 degree temperature. You know, Gulf War.

Thirty years ago. Probably not as strong as you were back then.

Enjoy the meds. It took a week to get that taste out of my mouth.

I think there are 2 oral therapeutic drugs that are approved and available. They're called paxlovid and Remdesivir. Are you taking one of them?

Paxlovid...still going, and going, and going. Do have a nasty taste in my mouth but after years of eating navy chow, I can handle it.
