To Gift or not to Gift
I'm just curious.....
How many Hobbyists give their ATF's Christmas gifts? And what are those gifts..something you shop for or just a really big tip?
Do any providers give their clients holiday gifts and again what are they?
Kisses,
Alex

You are assuming that hobbyists have ATFs.
Some do. I would be willing to bet that most, like me, don't. For a number of reasons.
Besides, getting yet one more present...and leaving a trail the SO can find...is just waaaaaaay tooooo much exposure.

No, I do not typically give providers gifts for holidays.
That is not to say that I do not provide gifts -- I often do. But those gifts are typically small in monetary value, not pawnable, and have specific applicability to the woman who receives them.
I did an experiment a few months ago via an aliased posting on TER. Most providers charge far less than $1200 for a session. I asked how many providers would be willing to accept an ounce of gold for a session. I did NOT state what an ounce of gold was worth at the time -- $1200.
The responses shocked me. There were dozens of responses, and every one of them said "no way!" And most of them referenced how, when they went to pawn it, they'd only get some fraction plus it was a a pain, etc.
Albeit indirectly, providers gave me an education they didn't know they were giving; because their responses let me know that they needed cash money RIGHT NOW. They didn't have slack in their budgets to wait a week via any of a dozen legitimate exchanges and get an $1100 check for their gold for a $300 session. No sirree, they would rather have $300 in ben franklins than a $1,200 gold coin.
And NONE of them referenced gold exchanges at all. They ALL assumed the only place they could turn that coin into cash was at a pawn shop. The thought of a pawn shop had never even occurred to me -- but it was right on top of their minds. High-priced escorts are often much more familiar with pawn shops than I ever expected.
Some of the references laughingly noted that they didn't want to be caught with scales, etc.
But this told me a lot. One thing it told me is to never get a provider a gift that can be easily liquidated at a pawn shop. I'd give her a $1200 piece of jewelry and in less than a week it would be pawned for $300-$400. So if I want her to have something of monetary value, I'm going to get some bang for my buck. Instead of investing $1200 for her to only get $400 worth of benefit; I'd just give her the $400 and invest the $800 for myself.
That sort of situation is evidence of disproportionate emotional investment in which the man's dollars go where his emotion is invested -- in this case in a woman who usually does not reciprocate that emotion to any substantive degree.
These are games I simply do not play. I am not some lovelorn puppy desperately seeking to buy love for which I would otherwise be deemed unworthy.
I don't deal with providers outside of the boundaries of a session as love interests. I deal with them as peers and friends. I am often helpful and very kind; but a total no-strings-attached situation with an actress using a fake name is a very unwise place in which to invest the sort of romantic feelings that lead to provision of items usually reserved for a love interest.
I deal with providers largely as friends; and as such they are given gifts that are like what a friend would give. It tends to require more thought than just throwing money at them; but so far I believe that such gifts are appreciated because they know they represent a genuine appreciation and thoughtfulness.

I would have had to do some research on value, educate myself on that. I have done many barters in the past.
I have received many simple gifts over the years. I do not expect them nor will I ever pawn but cherish gifts as a memory of a very fun time and a nice gentleman!

Hi Laurentius, I wonder if many may have turned down the gold coin because it would probably be easier to pass on a fake one. Unless she is use to dealing with gold coins, and collects them she may not know how to check to verify if it were real or not.
I have a friend who use to work as an escort, and had a client who spent a small fortune on her in nice jewelry/furniture/clothes etc.She is no longer working, and now has a regular entry level job, but she never sold off anything that he gave her even though she could probably use the money right now. They are still friends, but no longer have a financial arrangment. So I guess there are always exceptions out there.

Hi Becky,
There are, indeed, exceptions -- for which I say "thank goodness!"
I strongly suspect that were it not for the exception in this and many respects, hobbying wouldn't be enjoyable for me. The exceptions make it worthwhile. :-)

However, exceptions only point out the rule. And as a rule, I would never do a Christmas gift. But, as someone once said, "There's an exception to every rule, including this one."

With a favorite gal I am far more likely to present gifts at various times during the year then to focus on any specific day (other than her birthday perhaps).

I like to think of myself as a "Gift of God". Isn't that enough?
