What you are not getting is for legal purposes and practical purposes there is an important distinction and the consequences between being temporarily detained in an investigation and taken into custody ... the problem is ... and the reality in this thread ...
it is more sensational and derogatory to announce someone was "taken into custody" ..
by making that announcement it brands the person with GUILT ...
as determined by police.
So then go back and reread the in the articles used to ridicule Zimmerman (put your own name in the text where it talks about Zimmerman's role in the incident (not the history) ..
and ask yourself .... you want the truth about what happened to you out there ..
.... or embellished or distorted information.
Now you, and yours, can spend the next couple of weeks arguing amongst yourselves about "the law" and the "the legal status" of the continuum of the contacts with police and try to craft a niche for Zimmerman that meets the particular tattoo you want to brand on his forehead ... and apply that same standard to yourself. Example:
You are at an agency ( or spa or titty bar) when a bust goes down ...
Do you and all the other patrons and employees report that you were "taken into custody" when the police arrived? Is that what you would say?
At least be honest when you answer.
When you are pulled aside at security at the airport for additional pat down or questions ...
................ are you "taken into custody"?
Is that what you report to your friends/employees/boss/family?
At least be honest when you answer.
But if it has to do with Zimmerman or anyone else you don't like, trash them.
