Yes, adding more weight made a big difference! <GASPING FOR AIR>

I'm officially down 10 pounds in the last 12 days. And I look a lot smaller now.

Down 20 pounds as of today! Still a long way to go but it's good to see consistent progress. I started on June 21, so that works out to about half a pound per day, which is about what I've read is to be expected from consistent Intermittent Fasting. I feel confident that my Intermittent Fasting + low carb meals + high intensity / short duration exercise approach is right for me. I'm certainly pleased with the results so far.

One other thing I've started doing is rebuilding my gut flora by taking prebiotics and probiotics to encourage growth of "good" gut bacteria. There is an emerging body of research showing that this can be important in weight management.

Spanky, I've been doing the intermittent fasting + low carb + HIT workouts and I've lost 25 lbs in the past couple months. For the people that struggle with eating junk food, you should check out Cory Gregory's diet. For this diet, you SHOULD eat crap food on Friday and Saturday nights. I have seen tremendous results from this diet. I have struggled with weight all my life and this diet, so far, as been the easiest, and most effective that I have tried. Plus you can't go wrong with high intensity quick workouts.

I am trying your intermittent fasting program right now. Just started today and figured why not try to take advantage of my downtime to make a little more progress? I also tried the coffee that you told me about today via text. Can't remember what you called it. With the butter or coconut oil. It tastes a little odd but I suppose I will get used to it if that's all I have to consume for 23 hours.

I am going to have to ask my doctor about the probiotics tomorrow.

Yep, it's getting the job done for me too. I'll hit 2 months on 8/21 and 25 pounds lost or possibly (hopefully) a bit more is what I'm tracking to have lost by then as well.

I don't know if I should credit fasting / keto (I'd say probably so) but I just had some blood panels done and lipids were really good. Total cholestrol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides all well within healthy reference levels.

Less positively, fasting blood glucose is still a bit high at 104. That's a bit surprising given how little sugar / carbs I have eaten for quite some time.

Also my TSH is slightly higher than the top end of the reference range, indicating some possible hypothyroidism at work. Going back in 6 weeks to get that checked again. I was also a bit surprised at that one, given that I've been consistently supplementing iodine for a couple of months with the express goal of improving thyroid function.

Anyway, I'm right there with you that this is the way of eating and diet I've been looking for all my life to get my weight and health where I want them, to be. Indications from this blood work are mostly encouraging and the parts that aren't at least show me what I need to work on.

This explains some things. No idea how scientifically accurate is, but it makes sense. Low carb dieters are likely familiar with the "whoosh," a sudden loss in weight on the scale after an apparent plateau. I've also noticed that right before this happens, I will frequently reach a new low, then be disappointed the next day as I increase back to close to where I was the day before the new low. Then a short time later I get the coveted whoosh. If this graphic is accurate I'd say that means I've lost some fat and that shows up on the scale temporarily, then the scale goes back up as water refills the fat cells temporarily until released.

On another note, as of today I need a new belt. That's a good thing! I always try not to confuse progress with achievement of goals, but it's nice to have physical confirmation jay what I'm doing is working.

More on the "Whoosh": http://100down.org/the-whoosh-effect/

No idea if it's scientifically backed, but again based on my experience it seems to be very plausible.

For anyone considering keto (or some form of low carb / high fat diet) and worried about all the fat not being heart healthy, these are results from my recent lipid panel:

The reference range is the range considered "normal".

Total Cholesterol: 169 (Reference range 50-200)
Triglycerides: 84 (Reference range 15-150)
HDL ("Good" cholesterol): 33 (Reference range 32-96)
LDL ("Bad" cholesterol): 123 (Reference range 66-175)

Damn near perfect, except HDL could be a bit higher but it's still within the reference range. I eat *lots* of fat, but the right kinds of fat (no trans fats, minimize Omega-6 fats from seed oils, heavy on Omega3 and saturated from grass-feed/grass finished beef, real butter, etc and monounsaturated fats)

Natural fats being damaging to cardiac function is mostly based on a single flawed study from 60 years ago, and is perpetuated by such archaic organizations as the American Heart Association, which has over the years labeled lots of things "heart healthy," such as Count Chocula cereal and Crisco!

That is an interesting way to look at weight loss. It makes sense to me. I have been dieting for 12 days, lost a lot first week and then pretty plateaued the next 5 days. i am going to keep it up, this explanation helps! Nice pm ing with you tonight Spanky as well!

HCG. I'm doing an alternate plan where I can use coconut oil to cook with. I'm losing a lot of inches too
