Ignore the advice about non-medical care. Go to a board certified psychiatrist and find one that specializes in mood disorders. He or she can talk to you about the extent of your problem and tell you about the various options, whether meds or therapy, and their relative effectiveness rates, side effects, etc. The most effective treatment for mild panic attacks is either cognitive behavioral therapy alone or in combination with light medication. More severe cases may require a bit more pharmaceutical intervention.

Kaylee, this /\ is the best advice so far. A professional can determine the trigger and offer treatment from there.

There are situations that trigger mine and a light medication works wonders. The feeling can be frightening and make you feel out of control. I hope you can get it treated soon.

NorthSTAR is a program that will assist you getting hooked up with either a sliding scale cost model or no cost, including medication.

Do a google search. There is another group that also offers free mental health services, including MHMR, but I will have to get a little more awake to remember the name of it.

When I do, I'll add it to the comments.

I completely agree with the two posters above. If you're feeling very strong anxiety attacks, which can feel like you're having a heart attack, going natural is brave but possibly not the best course of action.

I'm all for natural. But to do that appropriately, you have to get panels of blood tests done, go to a special pharmacist that mixes herbs, chemicals, vitamins, etc for you and with the doctor costs is probably the most expensive route to do on your own.

Frankly, the cheapest route is to do what I have done. Find a low cost doctor who will just charge you an office fee (I have one in my neighborhood that charges $84 for an office visit), talk with them and get something started.

I will say that the process of finding an antidepressant that works well for you, and I'm not sure if that's what you need, can be a nightmare of its own.

Sometimes, you just have to go the cheap route. And for plenty of people, it works.

I use to suffer from anxiety attacks and the first ones were horrible experiences. Felt like my body was on fire and I was certain I was having a heart attack.

Even after being told it was an anxiety attack they still scare the crap out of me. But now I'm on medication, which is like four bucks a month under my insurance, and I'm doing well.

I still have the occasional attack but they are much milder and I also have some other medicine to take when I feel and attack coming on. But know I can detect them coming and get my mind set for what could happen and I go through them a lot easier.

Try and see a doctor and get some help. My doctor talked to me did all the tests and actually told me he wished his EKG was as good as mine. My heart is fine but the stress from work isn't.

I hope you start feeling better. Anxiety attacks suck.
