Well, go easy on the bike choice. I have been through it 3-4 times with newbs of both genders buying too much bike and scaring themselves out of riding. I was sad for them. All the time and money spent and they quit.
The latest involved a very petite asian lady that was absolutely committed to buying a 600cc sportbike. With MSF certificate and new license in hand she bought a Ninja 600. Approximently 50 miles later put it down. Thankfully she listened to me and had a full face helmet and jacket on. Bruised ego & scratched bike later she parked the bike and is thinking of selling it. Lesson: buy something reasonable and work on your skills. Once you are comfortable dealing with the asshole cagers (people in cars) and your skill set is up to snuff, then go get a GSX-R1300 Hayabusa, ZX-14R or whatever turns you on.
Also, there are track day orgainizations offering road course (2-3 mile curvy track) track days at a local race tracks specifically for beginners. This a safe, effective way to get on a race track (controlled environment) with other newbies and hone your skills without having to deal with oncoming traffic, intersections, cars, stationary objects etc.
If you can get past the learing curve (acquiring the skills), motorcycle riding is so exilerating, relaxing and fun. It is almost like sex.

Oh, I have no intention of going out and getting a 600. I have thought about it, people have said I would be blown off the highway, or get "bored"... Screw that. I set limits. Meaning, even if I think I am ready for a bigger bike, I am setting a limit not to sell it or trade up til a certain time has passed etc. I don't want to be that over confident cunt on a bike that gets herself paralyzed. Though, I am sure, there is a market for even that here on these shmb.

Ride safe. No excuses.
