The election was held, in 50 different states, in the same manner every national presidential election is held, every 4 years.

I seem to remember hearing that after the election of Barack Obama. Then over the course of 8 years, Democrats lost over 1,000 Legislative seats because people were disappointed with where Democrats were taking the country and it will happen again in either 2022 or 2024 is my guess.
