I've never tried Spam. The pictures of it and what most people have to say about it are awful; however, I have heard a couple of people rave over it. Personally, I'd rather eat a ketchup (or any other condiment) sandwich. Lol

There is a restaurant that I have been to a couple of times that has a dish with Spam in it. I can't recall which place though; but maybe next time I see it, I'll try it out. 😉

Spam fried as a breakfast meat, with fried eggs, is pretty damned good, I must admit.

I don't turn my nose up at it, but I would refuse it either if that's what was for breakfast.

And who besides me could (can) cook bacon and eggs in a brown paper sack over an open fire without the sack catching on fire?
When I was running a drilling rig I would routinely put canned lunch stuff on the draw works motor exhaust manifold. One night I had a can of beanie weenie, with a pop top, I go busy and it detonated. Beans and slices of weenie all over the place.

Had a roughneck heat a shovel with the cutting torch to fry Spam. Don't know of the mud and grease helped the taste,, I never tried it.

Growing up I often enjoyed Spam, Spam, and Eggs......or was it Eggs, Spam, Spam, Spam, and Eggs...? So confusing, ya know....

I love it. Slice it into about 12 slices. Fry it in a skillet. Makes 2 wonderful sandwiches, topped with cheese of course

Default Can't Do A Whole Can !

A whole can is just way over the top for me but these relatively new flexible film packaging singles is just enough.

Yeah, fry it up and get some char on both sides. If you can't eat it all, give what's left over to the cat - I did that and now the freaking cat follows me everywhere meowing !

Hey everyone. Merry Christmas!!!

Well, it took a few days after cooking the spam for me to get hungry enough to try it, but first, made a small sandwich out of it with some hot mustard. It was better than I thought it'd be.

Then, took a little bit of it and used it for some extra on a quesadilla that I was cooking. Won't do that again but I ate it. With salsa.

I'm not a huge fan but when I was young, it was a staple in our household.

Thanks for all of the responses!!!

Warmly,
Elisabeth

2 things that were real big in almost every recipes in the 40's and 50's were SPAM and JELL-O.

Housewives everywhere encased damn near everything in JELL-O: from meats to salads to seafood.

Here's some 1950's SPAM recipes:

The Swedish salad mold and everything else in the following image are made with SPAM with their recipes on the left if you feel adventurous:

There is only one way I'll eat spam, in fried rice. It's ta-die. There are so many recipes out there. This is mine. No measurements here, sorry.

Make jasmine rice, no salt, set side and let it cool.

Dice Spam into 1/2 inch cubes.

In a wok, with a little light oil (avocado oil is my preference), sautee Spam with onions, garlic, cabbage and bean sprouts (and choped thai chiles for heat, if you dare) on medium-high heat until onions and sprouts are 'al dente'. Drain broth into a separate container and set aside.

Add your cooled jasmine rice and turn up the heat. Fry away, stirring and flipping whilst twerking to your favorite tune from Burlesque.

Add soy (two tablespoons at a time so you don't over do it), stir, flip, twerk and taste until the rice has crisped and soy-ed to your liking.

Top with chopped cilantro, set some aside for me and shove the rest in your face.

Tips:
- Make a gravy with the broth for the rice.
- Use hot dogs if you don't like Spam.
- Use veggie dogs if you're a vegan.
- Drizzle lime or hot pepper vinegar on top.

Buen provecho (in Pidgin).

I rotate through 'em, so I have to eat a can every few months. It's certainly not the finest meat you'll taste, but it's not terrible. It tastes best fried in a pan so that both sides get a nice dark sear. I associate it with breakfast, so I usually eat it with eggs cooked various ways. I like the original and bacon varieties. The turkey spam is gross. The lite and low salt are proportionally less tasty.
Add the Chorizo Spam to the gross list. Better to use regular spam and real chorizo.
