I really likded seeing South Carolina. In Greenville, the area had some beautiful homes and tons of gorgeous, bright flowers in well manicured lawns. I prefer the water, so Nags Head or the like in the Carolinas would suit my fancy

So many choices. Glad it is not global or I would be forever trying to make a recommendation. (I am in in Transylvania now (Hungarian side) and there are gorgeous forests here. But in the US...
Tuolomne Meadows and the upper back country of Yosemite is gorgeous and remote.
I also love the San Juan Islands although the prettiest part is on the Canada side
I would have to agree about the back woods of Maine. I love the Ouachita trail and
Flatisde Pinnacle wilderness here- but they are too hot for the summer.
If you are thinking of a place to take up residence rather than a retreat- Dry Creek Valley in Northern California is a great place to consider. Great food and wine- not to hot and lots of interesting people. Art and spas in abundance.

I have a cabin in Grand Lake, Colorado that I spend time at in mid summer, October, and January, and it is one beautiful place in any season. I have not been to Telluride, Co. but might check it out when I venture that way this July.
Wyoming and Montana are fantastic. You can drive all day enjoying the scenery and never seem to get anywhere. Driving east to west through South Dakota is very picturesque, and all the colors and hues of New Mexico is breathtaking.

Well actually there are several things better than Maine Lobster, but I digress...
I still vote for Sanibel Island on the Gulf of Mexico - but you'd have to "settle" for Caribbean lobster...

It looks like I'm the odd man out on this one. For a long time, I've had a thing for the high desert in Arizona.

hrmmmm... move somewhere for the Summer?
One place that comes to mind right away for me is around the Las Vegas area. Perhaps even up towards Mesquite, NV or St George, UT. Lots of national parks and other places to explore within an hour or two drive. Plus the obvious Vegas entertainment.
Florida is my second option, with Key West being at the first place to check. It might be possible to find a good deal on a summer rental along other coastal areas.

Outside of Arkansas, I would definitely go somewhere that's not so hot. The mountains maybe-- around Jackson Hole, Wyoming, maybe. Cour D'alene, Idaho is awfully nice too. If I had to have a city, it would be San Francisco, I think.
