Work and play.... in smaller towns we have a different challenge than larger areas. Keep in mind, DFW, Houston, San Antonio and Austin MSAs are the 4th,5th, 25th, and 35th largest areas in the entire United States in terms of populations.
The way things work there in terms of the hobby don't necessarily translate to the way they work in our smaller communities.
I hobbied almost exclusively in Austin and San Antonio most of my years. I had good control of my schedule and knew well in advance when and where I could play. Even with a notice of 3-5 days, I still had trouble at times with a schedule (almost exclusively on the part of a lady). I learned the importance of a Plan B. I never double booked myself and more than once I walked away empty handed. Risk of the game.
In our smaller cities, we have fewer "business travellers" and men booking days in advance than in the larger cities. As a result, many of the ladies here must rely on same day and "late notice" bookings. They advertise accordingly. It IS harder to screen gents on a very short notice, however many of the ladies take this. Risk of the game.
As we have gents that fall into 1 of 3 categories, we have ladies here that fall into different categories. 1) ladies that exclusively cater to ECCIE and P411. Most of these ladies do not work full time. 2) ladies that cater to ECCIE and P411and supplement their schedules with BP. 3) ladies that cater primarily to BP, and supplement their schedules with ECCIE and P411.
Obviously, gents looking to play at the last minute are also at a higher risk of last minute cancellation and/or NC/NS. Risk of the game.
