I saw the same news story in the paper. The problem with reporters is that they know how to write, but not how to think, or reason. So called "news stories" are put together to attract interest, not to present facts.
The story is full of holes from the point of view on how the data was collected. This makes the conclusion meaningless.
The first thing to notice is the following:
Kansas City was rated third in the US for the sex industry.
Define the term sex industry! How is it measured? Where did the data come from? Remember, this is not publicly known data. No lady is going to report her total receipts to the government. Just like the "black market" in goods is that part of the economy that is not publicly reported. Therefore it is unknown. I do not know any lady who collects sales tax on her receipts.
For any closely held business (few investors), the owners do not have to break down the receipts for the government.
The whole story is BS.
