Default TEXAS TURNS DOWN BIG 10 AND.....

Texas has reportedly turned down the big 10 and the remaining schools are close to an agreement to stay together with the possible exception of Texas A&M which might go to the SEC.

Great news for the local schools!!
The Big Twelve post season tournament is scheduled to be in KC for the next four years...hopefully that won't change.
DD, I don't believe there are any plans to add new teams, they're just going to run with a ten team conference.

Lets see...the Big 12 has 10 schools, the Pac 10 has 12 schools, the Big 10 has 11 schools...can't keep track of it all.

Some guy from Yahoo sports was on the radio. He predicts no championship game, since it wasn't a huge money maker...and its just an opportunity for Texas to get knocked out of the national championship game. The pundits and the rest of the league are starting to look at the Big 12 as a factory that pumps either Oklahoma or Texas out as undefeated national championship contenders every year. If they add any teams, it would have to be a very good team, IMHO, or the stigma will continue that all the other teams are really just doormats for OK and TX...and possibly the automatic bowl bid would go away.

Yes...funny the BIG 10 now has 12 teams the BIG 12 has 10 teams, seems they could work out a swap....but who pays whom??? I think there is a championship game if 12 or more teams in a conference by NCAA rule, since all teams do not play each other...I saw a clip from the Iowa State AD..funny as hell something like "100% of nothing not as good as a small % of something" I suspect KSU, KU and MU all echo that sentiment and the $$$ they will be getting with the new contract is substantially more than they now get, and of course, Texas, OU and A&M to get a disproportionate share of the TV contract funds, it appears all are happy......at least for a while....

I heard this morning that the NCAA requirement where a conference must have at least 12 schools to have a championship game may be reduced to 10 schools. JerryWorld (aka Cowboys Stadium) is supposed to get the championship game through 2013 (as compensation to the northern schools, the basketball tournament will be in KC through 2014).
