OIL
Biden administration quietly approves huge Texas oil export project
ByDylan Baddour, The Texas Tribune
Thursday, November 24, 2022 2:59PM

Approval of the Sea Port Oil Terminal, off the coast of Freeport, about 50 miles south of Galveston, gave its corporate developers - Enterprise and Endbridge - a clear lead in the race to build the first new offshore export terminal in the Gulf. It was the agency's first endorsement and followed a three-year review process.

According to James Coleman, who teaches energy law at Southern Methodist University in Texas, the export terminal's approval represents the "hands-off" approach the Biden administration has adopted toward oil infrastructure projects since winning the White House on promises to block pipeline expansions.

Hmmm.
On one hand we have people saying we *use* to be energy independent.
Than they say we are ignoring our people by selling it to others.

Can't have it both ways.

Depends on one's definition of "energy independent".

"If energy independence means we don't import oil, then that hasn’t been true since the 1940s. If it means we export more energy than we import, then we became energy independent in 2019 (following a decade of soaring oil and gas production), but we remain energy independent today.

It is true that we achieved both of those energy independence milestones under President Trump. What isn’t true, is that it was because of anything special that he did. His energy policies may have helped a bit, but the primary cause was a surge in domestic oil and gas production that occurred as a result of the fracking boom."

We continue to import a great deal of oil from foreign countries. That was true under Trump and true under Biden. We are not energy self-sufficient.

There was a ban on oil exports stemming from the 1970's that was lifted in 2015...so imho all this talk of Trump being responsible is nonsense. It was the shale implosion and the repeal of the ban. Trump was in the right place at the right time. It took decades to get all the infrastructure in place. Trump had nothing to do with that!

I'm suprised Waco hadn't tried to give Reagan credit!

speaking of Reagan the Great .. trick question .. which US president opened the most Federal land for oil exploration in the last 60 years?

Reagan. and it's not even close. Reagan opened more Federal land to Oil exploration than all of his successors including Trump combined. but you knew that, right?

How much did oil production increase under Ronn8e?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier...h=f9226701a8ba

Ronald Reagan began his second term on January 21, 1985. The trends from his first term all reversed themselves, as consumption rose 10%, domestic production fell by 8%, and oil imports increased by 49%

Well Bully for Biden! This is a long way to have come for a man who promised to stop drilling on federal leases in 2020, and who was axing pipeline projects right and left after he was elected.

Now that we're about to have a Republican controlled House, maybe he'll triangulate, like Bill Clinton, instead of toeing the Progressive line. I hope so!

From memory, the Interior Department during the Reagan Administration put up something like 40 million acres for lease in the first 19 months of his presidency, compared to 150,000 acres for Biden. Although the Biden administration subsequently released more as a result of a court decision.

Let's hope Biden is turning over a new leaf. He was governing to the left of Barrack Obama. Maybe now with Republicans in control in the House he'll come back towards the center.

he's not smart enough or Bill Clinton enough for that.

Democrats controlled the House of Representatives during the entirety of the Reagan Administration. Finally, in 1988, the final year of his second term, Reagan and Congress managed to terminate Carter's Windfall Profits Tax (WPT) on oil. Of course domestic production fell and imports rose before the repeal of the WPT. That's because there was no incentive to invest in domestic production when oil companies only received peanuts for their product.

Price controls on natural gas prices were even stupider. They were removed in 1989, during the term of Reagan's anointed successor, George H. W. Bush. And the rest is history!

Thanks to Republican Leadership during the late 1980's and the ingenuity of our Oil and Gas Industry in the 2000's, we roughly import the same volume of oil and liquid petroleum products as we export. And natural gas production boomed! Gas replaced coal for power generation, and reduced air pollution and carbon emissions and saved peoples lives because the air we breathe is now cleaner. We're now the second largest exporter of natural gas in the world!

So thank you President Reagan for ending the Windfall Profits Tax! WTF should be kissing the ground you walk on, because the source of much of his wealth, Enterprise, would be a shadow of its current self if the WPT had been extended.

And thank you too President George H. W. Bush! Not only did you create the base to make the USA a natural gas powerhouse, but you're the only Republican who WTF admires!
