Side bit after some googling. It was R. Lee Ermey that said it in Full Metal Jacket, and R. Lee Ermey was the advisor to Louis Gossett Jr. on "An Officer and a Gentlemen".

My USMC drill instructor said it in 1966: it looks like it has been said to most of the special guys in the Marines. Of course, the DI for the Navy Pilot boot camp was a Marine DI.
